The British Glass Industry

The glass industry in the United Kingdom manufactures about 3.7 million tonnes of glass each year. Produced glass is categorised into container, flat, fibre, and domestic. Container glass comes in a variety of forms, including bottles and jars used by the food and drinks industry. The U.K. glass container sub-industry is comprised of six manufacturing companies, which generally make clear glass containers. Flat glass is used for buildings and vehicles; fibre glass is versatile and fire-resistant; while domestic glass covers decorative glass items, among others. Although the glass industry consumes much energy for heating furnaces, it produces very little waste since it can recycle practically all rejects.
